The aim of the African language short story competition is to create a corpus of short stories in African languages.

PRIZES

Up to 400 winning stories will receive a monetary reward.
$40 will be given to the author of the best original short story in each language.
$40 will be given to the translator of the best translated short story in each language.
$40 will be given to the author of the best translated short story in each language.


OTHER KEY DATES

20 February 2021: Submission of original stories close
7 February 2021: Translation of submitted stories open
20 February 2021: Submission of translations close
22 February 2021: Evaluation of stories open
27 February 2021: Evaluation of stories close
28 February 2021: Payments to winning authors




Note that while some organisers may accept applications from all around the world, you may still be required to travel to the host country in order to take part in the later stages of a competition for instance, or you may be required to live there for a period of time to take part in a funded programme (e.g. scholarship, incubator, accelerator).

Multiple host countries may mean that no travel is required.
