(Updated 1 Feb 2025) This entries’ call is for the 2025 edition of The Times/Chicken House Children’s Fiction Competition, a contest for unpublished and unagented writers with original and exciting stories for 7-to-18-year-olds.

PRIZES

First Prize
A worldwide publishing contract with Chicken House with a royalty advance of £10,000.
The winner will also receive an offer of representation from this year’s agent judge, Gyamfia Osei of Andrew Nurnberg Associates Ltd.

Second prize - The Lime Pictures New Storyteller Award
A publishing contract with a royalty advance of £7,500 plus an offer of representation by Gyamfia Osei. The prize will be awarded to a manuscript that shows great potential for film and TV development.

Lime also has a ‘first look deal’ for the shortlist and winning submissions, meaning the exclusive right to consider all shortlisted entries for film/TV development for a defined period of 45 days after the winners’ announcement.

Shortlisted entrants who don’t win will receive a letter summarising their reader’s, the Chicken House editorial team’s and the judges’ comments on their submission.

All longlisted entrants will receive a reader’s report of their work.


Note that an entry fee of £20 is required. However, if you are in financial hardship, please email [email protected] by midday (UK time) on the 1st of June to request for a reduced fee of £15. You do not need to provide proof or justification when requesting the reduced fee.
