African Teen Writers Awards


(Updated 12 Apr 2025) The aim of the African Teen Writers Awards is to inspire and empower young writers by encouraging them to share their stories and break the negative stereotypes associated with the African continent. Parents/Teachers/Guardians, note that this competition is for entrants between 13 to 16 years of age. The theme of this award is My Culture, My Pride.

There are two categories: Poetry and Prose
The winners of each category will receive a certificate of achievement and a cash prize of $100.


HOST COUNTRIES

Kenya   Nigeria


Note that while some organisers may accept applications from all around the world, you may still be required to travel to the host country in order to take part in the later stages of a competition for instance, or you may be required to live there for a period of time to take part in a funded programme (e.g. scholarship, incubator, accelerator).

Multiple host countries may mean that no travel is required.
